Philibert’s journey from the refugee camp to pursuing a master’s degree in pure mathematics at the prestigious University of Zambia mirrors the Foundation’s commitment to empowering deserving refugee children despite adversities.
Before his association with Bamukunde Foundation in 2020, Philibert, like many others in the camp, encountered obstacles in accessing quality education. Despite these hurdles, he completed his secondary schooling with the assistance of a local priest, Bishop John Osmers. However, the path to higher education remained daunting until the priest intervened, inspiring Philibert to pursue university studies.
Through the support of Bamukunde Foundation and other benefactors, Philibert not only commenced his academic journey but also excelled in it. His dedication and perseverance led to his current enrollment, now in the second and final year of his master’s program in pure mathematics at the University of Zambia, renowned as one of the top academic institutions in the country.
Leveraging the opportunities facilitated by Bamukunde Foundation’s scholarship, Philibert earned an opportunity from the University of Messina, Sicily, Italy, where he is presently engaged as an associate through the ERASMUS exchange program. His participation in this esteemed program, exclusive to him from Zambia, underscores his exceptional academic standing and dedication.
Looking ahead, Philibert holds profound aspirations rooted in his desire to uplift his family in the Meheba refugee camp and to contribute to the welfare of the Rwandan refugee community, particularly those facing heightened vulnerabilities. His journey exemplifies the transformative power of education and the pivotal role played by Bamukunde Foundation in nurturing talents and fostering resilience in the face of adversity.
