About us

Bamukunde Foundation is a registered charity working with refugee children in refugee camps in Africa to enable them have access to education. Bamukunde Foundation was set up in 2020 in the United Kingdom, to help restore basic needs and education to children in Meheba Refugee Settlement camp in Zambia.

Today, Bamukunde Foundation is also working with refugee children in Burundi and the Republic of Congo. Bamukunde Foundation has affiliated associations in France and in Switzerlands.

Our focus is on raising awareness and raising funds for education projects in various refugee camps. In these refugee camps, such as Meheba camp, the most vulnerable among these children are Rwandan refugee because their support from UNHCR has been suspended. This has resulted in increasing number of children dropping out school.

“When I was living in a refugee camp as a child, my greatest wish was to have access to education, because I could see that it was the only path that will lead to a better life for me and my family. When I finally got an education and bettered my life, I swore that I will do all that I can to help other refugee children to access education and realise their dreams”

Our Mission

Our mission is to ensure that all refugee children have access to quality learning opportunities. We endeavour for the inclusion of refugee children in the national education system of the country in which they have sought protection.

Education

We believe that education is the route out of poverty for many children. It gives them a chance to gain the knowledge and skills needed to improve their lives.

Basic needs

We believe that each child's basic needs, such as food, clothing or shelter, should be met. Along side education, a child should be given proper health care. This includes dental care and other medical recommendations.

Health wellbeing

We believe that education can lead to more accurate health beliefs and knowledge, and thus to better lifestyle choices, but also to better skills and greater self-advocacy.

Children Rights

The Right to an Education is one of the most important principles in becoming a Rights Respecting School. Education is a key social and cultural right and plays an important role in reducing poverty and child labour
